IN LINE WITH MALAYSIA'S VISION 2020 TO MAKE OUR COUNTRY MORE GLOBALLY COMPETITIVE, THE LIGHT PROJECT GLOWS WITH SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTION.
Arriving at a time of economic confidence and promise of bigger things to come in Malaysia, THE LIGHT will benefit from other significant developments arising from the The Northern Corridor Economic Region
initiative and the 9th Malaysia Plan.
Among these are plans to make Penang into an attractive Cybercity destination in the Northern Region, and the development of Penang's second bridge, Penang Outer Ring Road and the monorail. All of which will add advantages to the success of THE LIGHT.
If Malaysia expects an upswing in visitor arrivals and expenditure, THE LIGHT is ready to assist in drawing huge numbers of local, regional and international leisure and business visitors to Penang.
The stage is set and the mood is right for THE LIGHT to make a big impact on the Penang economy
Northern Corridor Economic Region
The NCER is an economic and social development agenda to make the region a world-class economic region by 2025. Growth in key economic sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, tourism and logistic services will be encouraged.
Penang's second bridge estimated at RM 2.8 billion, measuring 23.4 km will connect Batu Kawan in Seberang Prai to Batu Muang on the main island. Scheduled for completion in 2013.
Penang Outer Ring Road
The Penang Outer Ring Road, a 17 km, 2-lane dual carriageway, from Tanjung Tokong to Gelugor stretches to Gurney Drive.
The RM 1.2 billion monorail will cover 40 stations on a 37km route.
The Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP)
The Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP), rolled out on 31st March 2006, is the most important blueprint that charts the country's development path to achieve developed nation status by 2020 as outlined by the National Mission. The National Mission aims to enhance Malaysia's capability to compete globally, to strengthen national unity and to bring about a better distribution of income and wealth as well as higher quality of life among the people.
