IN PENANG, THE WATER ELEMENT AND THE WATERFRONT HAVE FEATURED PROMINENTLY IN THE LIVES OF PENANGITES.

Penang's waterfront has long been a favourite haunt for families, morning, noon and night.

To stroll along the waterfront, enjoying the evening air with family and friends, have been a national pastime. To eat at street stalls here was a treat too good to miss. To do absolutely nothing here and just watch the ships and yachts go by was totally permissible and a uniquely Penang thing to do.

People of Penang have a special love of water, inspired by nature's beauty and bounty pervading their beloved island. Waterfalls, rivers, lakes, ponds and even longkangs (small drains) in which to catch tiny fish were all part of the fun and charm of a blessed and simple Penang life for both young and old.

Both the lure of water and waterfront attractions will be revived once again here in THE LIGHT.
